Literacy Play: The Early Literacy Skills in Story Time

Invigorate your story time with this hands-on workshop. Join us for an introduction to the pre-literacy skills that children need before they are ready to learn to read. Learn new ways to integrate playful learning into your story time, and get an overview of ALA’s “Every Child Ready to Read” program.

 

Art for Early Literacy

This hands-on workshop will take participants step-by-step through several art techniques appropriate for our earliest learners. Learn how to enhance art programs with early literacy skills and get kids ready for school. Leave with everything you need to know to set up your own programs, including tips for setup and materials lists.

 

Preschool Science Fun

This workshop focuses on encouraging young children’s intuitive experimentation through play. Fun, inexpensive and educational demonstrations and experiments appropriate for preschool children will be featured. Participants will learn about how to connect these STEM activities to early learning skills essential for preparing children to read.

 

Integrating iPads into Story Time

 iPads, tablets, smartphones and computers are in children’s everyday home life. Integrating these items into library story time models appropriate interactions for parents and caregivers and encourages additional literacy activities. Participants will be introduced to the basics of using iPads as well as several applications for use in story time programs for children ages 0-5.
